C002 Chopin: Variations on a Theme by Rossini

These brilliant variations were composed by Chopin in 1824. The theme is taken from the final aria of Rossini´s opera ´Cenerentola´ (Cinderella) where the heroine bids a joyous farewell to all her days spent as a house-keeper. Hurrah!  In this virtuosic arrangement the tricky bits are shared between the 2 flutes, with Alto taking the lead in the slow Variation. A little less exhausting than the original, but just as much fun!
(arr. M.Orriss)

N003a di Capua/Denza: Two Neapolitan Songs

*NEW* These two songs were made famous by Neapolitan tenor Enrico Caruso who sang them as encores at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in the early 20th century. The love song 'O Sole Mio' translates as My Sunshine and gives all the players a chance to wallow in the nostalgic melody. 'Funiculi, Funicula' was composed to celebrate the opening of the first cable car on Mount Vesuvius. All parts get a chance for a tune with the Alto taking the lead in the verse and the flutes leading the rousing refrain.
arr. A. Cooper

Grading: 5-7

OR001a Orriss: Tweets

*NEW* An original set of 3 short but effective pieces: A Muster of Peacocks, A Parliament of Owls and A Paddling of Ducks. As well as being satisfying to play and listen to, these make great pieces for ensemble teaching, dealing with legato phrasing, varying articulation, and dynamic balance.

OR001a Flute Trio: 2 Fls, Alto *LISTEN*
Grading: 3-5
Duration: 3'33

R003 Rimsky-Korsakov: Flight Of The Bumble Bee

A whizzy little arrangement of the virtuoso showpiece from the opera "The Tale of Tsar Saltan".  The chromatic melody buzzes frantically from one part to the other, making it a little less exhausting than a solo version, but equally exciting!
(arr. M.Orriss)

R003 Trio: 2 Fls, Alto *LISTEN*
Grading: 8-9
Duration: 1'30

T005 Tchaikovsky: Scene (Swan Lake)

*NEW* This is the 'Swan Theme', (originally the famous oboe solo) from Tchaikovsky's well-loved ballet, as the hero Siegfried first sees the swan Odette (who is of course really a princess), and the two fall in love. The melody is shared here between the two flutes, and later passed on to the alto as the dramatic tension rises.
(arr. A.Cooper)

T005 Flute Trio: 2 Fls, Alto *LISTEN*
Grading: 7-9
Duration: 2'24

TR008a Trad: Theme/Variations - Early One Morning

*NEW* Inspired by Beethoven's set of variations on Mozart's "La ci darem la mano" for oboe trio, this theme and 4 variations is designed to be a fun challenge for three advanced flautists. Based on the popular folk song there are 2 fast variations, a jolly gallop and a melancholy minor key section, (featuring an alto flute solo)  finishing off with a coda returning to the style of the opening theme.
Arr. A. Cooper

TR008a Flute Trio: 2 C Flutes, Alto    *LISTEN*
