Wonderful Winds Flute Days!

Wonderful Winds Flute Days! presents a unique opportunity to get together with your local flute community under the expert guidance of two of the country’s leading flute ensemble coaches.
Using the extensive Wonderful Winds Flutets library as a resource, players will have the chance to play together in a Flute Choir setting using the full family of flutes and (in the weekend course) play in smaller chamber groups tailored to give every flautist the chance to develop in a supportive and convivial atmosphere. Weekend and One Day courses are available, and are suitable for all ages and abilities.

If you are interested in having a Flute Days! event in your area, simply get in touch with Mel or Joss and we can make it happen!

Some reviews of our first Flute Days! event in Okehampton

"So amazing to have this Wonderful Winds weekend on our doorstep. We'd definitely sign up again. Thanks for an amazingly well organised event."

"Thank you so much. Mum and daughter had such fun playing the flute together for the first time! And we loved the train whistles! We'll definitely be back next summer"

"Thank you both so much for making the weekend such a lot of fun & so full of great advice, reminders & tips. Good luck with your days around the country. I'll look forward to the next Okehampton days."

"We just wanted to say a big thank you to you both for the flute workshop on Saturday - my daughter had a whale of a time with the music and trying out different flutes - she also made 3 new friends which was a bonus! The concert was really impressive and had a lovely relaxed, creative feel about it. She is definitely up for more!"

"I really enjoyed the Sunday Flute Day. It was well organised, with a good balance of activities for a big range of like-minded "fluties"! I will be looking out for the next one."

"...she loved every minute of it and has not stopped talking about her participation and experience ever since."

"Thank you for organising such a fantastic event. I enjoyed all of it and it was a joy to see so many youngsters there. Looking forward to the next one!"

  Your Tutors

Joss Campbell and Mel Orriss have been firm friends since they met on their first day of 6th Form at Chetham's School of Music back in the 1980's, and have studied, worked and played together for well over thirty years. They share a kindred love and enthusiasm with all things flute and have developed a working chemistry that sees their workshops in demand all over the country.

What the days entail

Every event includes ice-breaking body and brain warm-ups and coaching on fundamental flute techniques, with a special focus on breathing and tone production. Then players get the chance to meet the big flutes, pick up some tips on how to play them, and experience the joy of playing in a full Flute Choir. The afternoons include Chamber Music coaching, using music chosen from the Wonderful Winds Library, or, in the One Day event, sectional rehearsals to help you get to grips with trickier sections of the full choir pieces. The days culminate in a free informal concert, giving friends, family and fellow players the chance to hear the results of a lively day of fluting.
Music for some of the flute choir pieces, together with all the information you'll need is sent out 3 weeks prior to the event in a Player's Pack.
