After the success of their first CD 'Christmas Crackers' and many requests from their fans, Festive Flutes bring you their 2nd CD 'Overnight Sensations' in support of the NSPCC. This light-hearted programme presents arrangements of music taken from the movies, musicals, opera and film. Talented experts have risen to the challenge of converting wonderful masterpieces into witty new arrangements for flutes with the occasional splash of percussion. Festive Flutes founding members, Sarah and Liz, first met at the Royal College of Music as junior exhibitioners and gathered fellow festive fluters Alison and Mel during their studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The group also makes a point of working with young, emerging flautists and on this CD we are joined by the talented Laura, a recent graduate of Cambridge.

JS Bach Flute Sonatas - Elizabeth Walker – flute with Continuum.

  • Sonata in E minor BWV1034
  • Sonata in C major BWV1033
  • Sonata in E major BWV1035
  • Partita in A minor BWV1013
  • Sonata in B minor BWV1030

"This CD gives food for thought to the listener for several reasons.
First there is the cover: 'flute with continuum', only in the booklet we will find the names of the
    cellist and harpsichordist.
Furthermore Elizabeth plays a 'modern' wooden flute from 1960, while at the same time she's
mastering all of the historical flutes as well.
Then she has chosen to play in Valotti temperament and chooses to change the intonation in
chromatic passages, much like Quantz made a difference between e-flat and d-sharp on his
    instruments.
At first glance one is immediately caught by her expressive and meaningful playing. The sketches
are all melodically and harmonically structured in a logical and convincing way, together with the
beautiful playing of her continuo group. Walker has a wonderful sound, especially enjoyable in the
    slow movements.
The fast movements are a bit static and less interesting to my taste, in spite of finesses in baroque
articulation, which, in her own saying, she is after.
But her plea for playing in style on a Boehm flute are very successful as far as I'm concerned.
    Fluit."

George Philipp Telemann Twelve Fantasias for Flute without Continuo

Elizabeth Walker – flute

This recording is the solo debut disc from Elizabeth Walker for Quartz. Elizabeth has recorded previously nine CDs with the New London Consort for Decca and has played as a freelance flautist both on period and modern instruments, most notably with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the City of London Sinfonia.

There are virtually no other works written for solo unaccompanied flute "senza basso" that one can compare to the Fantasias. The unaccompanied Fantasias by Telemann stand as masterpieces of baroque invention, showing a variety of styles and influences in ever changing moods and tempos. Elizabeth performsm on a wooden flute.
